Companion Guide

Some people share a season.

Some share a life.

Both are gifts.

This companion guide was created to accompany Episode 28 of Healer & Hope Giver and help you reflect on the relationships that have shaped your story. Through guided exercises, reflection prompts, Scripture, and gratitude practices, you’ll explore the people who walked beside you through different seasons of life and recognize the ways God often cares for us through the people He places along our path.

Rather than focusing on healing what is broken, this guide focuses on noticing what has been given.

The encouragement.
The support.
The wisdom.
The friendship.
The people who helped carry parts of your life when you couldn’t carry them alone.

Inside This Guide

Section One: Mapping Your Story

Create a relationship timeline and identify the people who helped carry different chapters of your life, including:

  • Childhood
  • Teen Years
  • Young Adulthood
  • Early Career
  • Marriage
  • Parenting
  • Faith Journey
  • Your Current Season

You’ll begin recognizing the people who consistently appeared throughout your story and the ways God provided support through them.

Section Two: The People Who Shared a Season

Not every relationship is meant to last forever.

Through the signature exercise The Gift They Left Behind, you’ll reflect on people who walked with you for a specific season and explore:

  • What they brought into your life
  • What they taught you
  • What you still carry because of them
  • The gift they left behind

This section creates space for gratitude without requiring every relationship to remain exactly as it once was.

Section Three: The People Who Share a Life

Some relationships become part of the foundation of who we are.

Using the relationship circles exercise, you’ll identify the people who:

  • Know your story
  • Encourage your growth
  • Tell you the truth
  • Support your faith
  • Celebrate victories
  • Walk with you through difficult seasons

This section helps you recognize the people who continue showing up in your life today.

Section Four: Looking Around Your Table

One of the most powerful exercises in the guide.

You’ll reflect on:

  • Who is sitting at your table right now
  • Who deserves more appreciation
  • Who helps carry your burdens
  • Who helps you laugh
  • Who challenges you to grow
  • Who points you toward God
  • Whether an empty chair needs an invitation

This section invites you to consider the relationships shaping your current season.

Section Five: God’s Provision Through People

Through Scripture and guided reflection, you’ll explore the ways God has provided encouragement, wisdom, comfort, strength, and care through the people He placed in your life.

Scripture includes:

  • Galatians 6:2
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
  • Romans 12:15

These reflections help connect relationships to God’s ongoing faithfulness.

Section Six: Gratitude in Action

Reflection becomes meaningful when it moves into action.

You’ll create a simple gratitude plan by choosing practical ways to honor the people who have shaped your life, including:

  • Sending a text
  • Writing a handwritten note
  • Praying for someone by name
  • Reconnecting with someone from your story
  • Thanking someone who is still helping carry your journey

Because gratitude grows when it moves.

Perfect For

This guide is especially helpful if:

  • You’re reflecting on the people who shaped your story
  • You’re processing changing friendships with gratitude
  • You want to appreciate your current community more intentionally
  • You’re recognizing God’s faithfulness through relationships

  • You want a meaningful gratitude exercise beyond simple journaling

What Makes This Guide Different

Unlike many reflection resources that focus on fixing problems, this guide focuses on recognizing provision.

It helps you look back across your life and notice something easy to miss:

Many of the ways God cared for you arrived through people.

And when you begin tracing those relationships, gratitude often follows.

Continue the Journey

This guide pairs especially well with:

Together these conversations explore the people who shape us, the relationships that sustain us, and the ways God often cares for us through the community He places around us.

I actually prefer the second version because it keeps the focus squarely on people, relationships, and God’s provision through community, which is exactly what this guide is about.

Closing Encouragement

You don’t have to do this all at once.

You don’t have to do it perfectly.

Just take the next step that feels right for you.

I’m really glad you’re here.
