Episode 33: When Healing Changes Who You’re Becoming

Have you ever looked back at an earlier version of yourself and almost felt like you were looking at someone else?

Not because you don’t recognize them.

But because somewhere along the way, something quietly changed.

Not overnight.

Not because one conversation suddenly fixed everything.

But little by little…

Choice by choice.

Season by season.

Until one day you realize you’re responding differently than you used to.

In this conversation, we’ll explore why healing isn’t about returning to who you were before life became difficult. It’s about allowing God to shape the person you’re becoming through every season of your story.

Featured Quote

“Healing isn’t creating a brand-new person. It’s revealing the person God has been patiently forming all along.”

About This Episode

For years, I thought healing meant getting back to the person I used to be.

Recovering.

Returning.

Finally putting the hard chapter behind me.

Now I believe something very different.

Healing doesn’t erase our story.

It transforms the person our story is creating.

In this deeply personal episode, I reflect on life after Moyamoya brain surgeries, homeschooling two young boys, navigating years of uncertainty before an autism diagnosis, learning to release control, discovering that grace is a better teacher than shame, and finding the courage to use my voice before I ever felt fearless.

Together we’ll explore the difference between surviving and flourishing, why the strengths that helped us through one season aren’t always the strengths we need for the next, and how God patiently shapes us through ordinary Tuesdays far more often than extraordinary moments.

Because healing doesn’t have a finish line.

It has a direction.

And that direction is becoming.

Reflection Question

When you look back at the person you were five or ten years ago, what quiet changes do you notice?

What strengths helped you survive that season?

And where might God be inviting you to lay them down so you can embrace the strengths you’ll need for the season you’re entering?

Final Thought

We often wish healing happened faster.

We want dramatic breakthroughs.

Clear finish lines.

Visible progress.

But God so often chooses a quieter way.

One ordinary conversation.

One act of courage.

One apology.

One faithful Tuesday.

One season at a time.

You may not yet be the person you hope to become.

But if you’re walking with Him…

You’re not the person you used to be either.

Healing isn’t asking you to become someone else.

It’s inviting you to become more fully the person God has been lovingly forming all along.

And the beautiful truth is this:

He’s not finished yet.

Neither are you.
