About This Devotional

Every day we encounter measurements.

A fuel gauge.

A battery percentage.

An overflowing inbox.

A scale.

A mirror.

Measurements are incredibly helpful—as long as we remember what they were created to do.

The trouble begins when we ask them questions they were never designed to answer.

Questions like:

“Am I enough?”

“Am I worthy?”

“Am I valuable?”

In this devotional, we’ll explore one of Scripture’s most beautiful reminders from 1 Samuel 16:7. When Samuel assumed he had found Israel’s next king by looking at outward appearance, God gently interrupted him with a truth that still speaks to us today:

“Humans see what is visible, but the LORD sees the heart.”

Together we’ll discover that God has always seen us differently than we often see ourselves. He sees beyond appearances, beyond labels, beyond comparison, and beyond the stories we’ve carried for years.

Because He has always seen the whole story.

Scripture Focus

1 Samuel 16:7

“Humans do not see what the LORD sees, for humans see what is visible, but the LORD sees the heart.”

God reminds Samuel—and us—that outward appearance never tells the whole story. His perspective reaches far deeper than what can be measured or seen.

Psalm 139:13–14

You were intentionally created by God before anyone else’s opinions, comparisons, or expectations ever became part of your story. Your worth has always rested in His workmanship.

Genesis 1:27

Every person bears the image of God. Our value was established by our Creator long before we learned to measure ourselves by anything else.

Ephesians 2:10

We are God’s workmanship—still being shaped, still growing, and still becoming the people He created us to be.
