Devotional 16: When Strength Feels Like Exhaustion

Sometimes exhaustion doesn’t arrive all at once.

It builds quietly through responsibilities, relationships, caregiving, leadership, and the many ways we keep showing up for life. In this devotional, we reflect on Jesus’ invitation to the weary and discover that strength was never meant to mean carrying everything alone.

About This Devotional

Many people spend years being known as “the strong one.”

They’re dependable. Responsible. Steady under pressure. They show up when others need them and quietly carry more than most people realize. From the outside, that kind of strength often looks admirable.

But over time, even strong people grow tired.

In this devotional, we reflect on Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11, Paul’s words in Galatians 6, and the powerful story of Moses being supported by Aaron and Hur in Exodus 17. Together, these passages remind us that God’s design for strength has always included rest, relationship, and shared burdens.

If you’ve been carrying responsibilities for a long time, feeling tired in ways that sleep doesn’t fully solve, or struggling to receive help from the people around you, this devotional offers a gentle reminder:

You were never meant to carry life by yourself.

Scripture Focus

Matthew 11:28–30 (NASB)

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Jesus does not begin by offering a strategy. He begins by offering Himself. His invitation reminds us that rest begins in relationship, not performance.

Galatians 6:2 (NASB)

“Carry one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”

God’s design for community has always included shared strength. Some burdens become lighter simply because they are no longer carried alone.

Exodus 17:12 (NASB)

“Aaron and Hur supported his hands…”

Even Moses needed help. The battle was sustained not because he was endlessly strong, but because he was not standing there alone.

Reflection Question

Where in your life might God be inviting you to stop carrying something alone?
