Episode 9: Not All Growth Looks Like Improvement

What happens when the old ways of measuring growth stop working?

When progress no longer looks like clarity, momentum, confidence, or visible results, it’s easy to wonder whether you’re moving forward at all. In this episode, we explore what it means to heal, grow, and trust God in seasons where the work is happening beneath the surface and the usual scoreboards no longer apply.

About This Episode

There comes a point in many healing journeys where the old measures of success stop making sense.

Faith can no longer be measured by outcomes. Health can no longer be measured by a number. Grief can no longer be measured by how quickly you “feel better.” And when those familiar systems fall away, it can leave us feeling disoriented, uncertain, and unsure how to tell whether we’re still growing.

In this episode, I reflect on three deeply personal seasons of my life: infertility, health, and grief. Through each of them, I discovered that some of the most significant growth happened long before there was anything visible to show for it. Growth looked less like improvement and more like surrender. Less like certainty and more like trust. Less like progress I could measure and more like healing I could live inside of.

We’ll explore what it means to live without a scoreboard, why healing often removes clarity before it restores direction, and how God sometimes does His deepest work in seasons that feel quieter, slower, and harder to explain.

If you’ve been showing up, praying, healing, grieving, or simply trying to stay present in a season that doesn’t make sense yet, this conversation is a reminder that not all growth looks like improvement—and that doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
